Legislation Update: Notifiable Non-Licensed Works on Asbestos
From the 1st of May 2015, significant changes in legislation mandate medical examinations for all workers engaged in Notifiable Non-Licensed Works (NNLW) involving asbestos. The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 now requires medical surveillance for workers involved in NNLW, in addition to licensed asbestos work.
Under the new regulations, workers must undergo a medical examination before commencing NNLW, unless they have had a suitable examination within the past three years. These examinations, conducted by registered medical practitioners, must be repeated every three years for workers engaged in such activities.
